Insomnia is a sleep condition that affects 25% of the population each year, including myself.&nbsp; It\u2019s a condition where you have trouble falling or staying asleep and can cause you to have tiredness, low energy, mood swings, a hard time staying focused, or poor performance in school.&nbsp; There are different \u201clevels\u201d of insomnia, however, based on how long it lasts.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acute insomnia is \u201cbrief and often\nhappens because of life circumstances.\u201d&nbsp;\nThese circumstances can be due to a test the next day, bad news, an argument\nwith someone else, or any other stressful things.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chronic insomnia has to occur 3 nights out of the week and persist for 3 months to be labeled as such.&nbsp; It can be caused by environmental changes, unhealthy sleep habits, unusual times for work, or some types of medicine.&nbsp; This type of insomnia can be helped with some form of treatment, such as behavioral, psychological, medical, or a combination of the three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">What are some things you can do when you have insomnia?&nbsp; I\u2019m no expert, but speaking from personal experience, I find it best to just accept that I\u2019m having difficulty falling asleep and do something productive, whether that\u2019s homework, cleaning my room, or writing a blog post, like what I\u2019m doing right now!&nbsp; The next day might be a bit tiring, but some caffeinated tea and lots of sunshine help me power through.&nbsp; Sometimes I may take melatonin, a drug-free vitamin that helps calm your brain down, the night before a big or exciting day as a preventative measure.&nbsp; One boring book (looking at you <em>Taming of the Shrew<\/em>) later and I\u2019m fast asleep!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/moleculesatmidnight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_0201-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8\" width=\"208\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"http:\/\/moleculesatmidnight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_0201-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/moleculesatmidnight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_0201-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/moleculesatmidnight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_0201-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, http:\/\/moleculesatmidnight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_0201-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/moleculesatmidnight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_0201-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 680px, 560px\" \/><figcaption>Melatonin vitamins, oftentimes a life-saver for me<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Citations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat Is Insomnia?\u201d <em>National\nSleep Foundation<\/em>, www.sleepfoundation.org\/insomnia\/what-insomnia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since this is my first post, and my blog is about thoughts and facts late at night, it&#8217;s fitting to kick things off with a post about insomnia.
