An Average Day in Quarantine

Reagan Smith 08/12/2020

Hi, guys! Today, we have a guest article written by the one and only Patrick Nguyen. Patrick is going to be a junior with me, and he decided to give us a peek into his daily routine this summer.

I don’t even know how many days of quarantine it’s been.

Believe me, when summer started and there were no assignments, I was stoked to stay up all night, play video games, and watch movies. Most of my day is taken up by myself pacing around the house and eating snacks whenever I can. However, I still manage to get work done? It’s strange considering how much time I waste on my phone and social media. Well, here’s my day.

11:00 A.M Wake Up

During quarantine, I started staying up till 1 or 2 am watching movies and playing video games since I don’t really have much to do. Once I wake up, I probably go on my phone for another 15 minutes until I see my daily zodiac horoscope urging me to get up and be productive because of my Pisces moon or something like that.

11:15-11:45

I’m a morning shower kind of guy. It just sort of wakes me up and I could never imagine doing work without taking a shower. I normally shower for about 15 minutes and then I brush my teeth for about 3 minutes. I have braces so my routine is a bit extensive which explains why it takes me 30 minutes to get ready in the morning. Since I’m not going anywhere, I normally just wear my PJ’s around the house. Trust me, they are way more comfortable than regular clothes.

12:00 – 1:00

I don’t want to sound crazy or anything but I literally spend an hour pacing around the house. I’m not just walking around endlessly though, I also sing musical theater songs, contemplate life, and text my amazing friends whom I love so dearly. I must be getting a real workout with all the walking though. I have a younger sister so usually we also play with our dog in the backyard! She can be a bit shady sometimes, but I love her very much!

1:30-3

My mom usually comes home from her daily grocery shopping and whatnot. Here, I would actually sing more musical theater songs and do vocal warmups. My phone is literally full of recorded songs and I’m going to have to delete some after I finish writing this blog. As you can tell, I’m a big musical theater guy and I just love singing. I just recently discovered this passion back in like the summer of sophomore year and it’s been a big part of my life ever since. Honestly if I didn’t sing, I would be really stressed out most of the time. I literally learned so much vocal technique without a teacher. You could say I’m a self-made vocalist, but I don’t mean to flex. If you’re wondering what kind of pop artists I listen to, I prefer mainstream artists like Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish. I’m just basic like that.

3-5

You’re probably wondering. Patrick, when do you actually do work? Well, I’m an extremely busy person at this time because I realize I haven’t done any work. I don’t mean to brag or anything but I’m probably the top 1% of most productive people. I’m joking. Most of my work is in the night so don’t expect me to be the motivational blogger who starts their day off with green tea and granola in the mornings. So from 3-5, I’m probably internet surfing and watching Youtube. I’m probably sure most of the general knowledge comes from Youtube.

5-3 A.M

Yea, this is a big timespan. At these hours, I eat dinner, go biking outside with my family  (not for long though), and shower again (yes, I know two showers a day is excessive). Okay, here’s where productivity comes in. I take a look at whatever I need to do on my chalkboard (which I just got and I love it so far). By the way, I’m a big stationery guy so my room is filled with pens, pencils, and markers. They’re not just any stationery though. I know what the best products are in both the American, German, and Japanese markets. I especially love German mechanical pencils because there’s a big engineering community in Germany and I think I like math? I’m not sure. But there’s my tangent about stationery.

At around 10 P.M, I’m probably doing meetings or working on projects that I’ve been doing this summer. I’m not going to disclose any information on that because it’s b o r i n g. After doing a bunch of stuff for 3 hours straight, you can find me watching a movie or rewatching a movie (Call Me by Your Name). If you haven’t seen it, you MUST! Most of my summer is just being thirsty for celebrities or browsing Reddit. Oh, and if I’m not in a motivational mood, I’m probably playing  video games for 3 hours a day. : )
